A school or community crisis can have both short- and long-term effects on students’ health, development, psychological functioning, and emotional well-being. In this 90-minute training webinar, K–12 educators and administrators will learn how to effectively support students—and take good care of themselves—in the aftermath of a crisis.

Led by the renowned David J. Schonfeld, founder and director of the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement, this training session will prepare educators to recognize the effects of crisis and support students throughout recovery and renewal. Dr. Schonfeld will give attendees real-world guidance, strategies, and insights, drawn from his 30+ years of experience as the country’s go-to expert on school crisis and childhood bereavement. The webinar will conclude with a Q&A session, an ideal opportunity to get expert answers to urgent questions on effectively helping students through trauma, loss, and grief.

ATTENDEES WILL:

  • Explore the differences between trauma and loss
  • Identify common adjustment difficulties to anticipate among children after a crisis
  • Learn why it’s important to shift from a medical model to a system of universal support to promote resilience as the primary focus
  • Incorporate the principles of psychological first aid to help students cope in the aftermath of crisis
  • Gain new insights into the importance of professional self-care after crisis events
  • Get access to helpful free resources from the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement and the Coalition to Support Grieving Students

Webinar Companion Materials: Each attendee will receive a copy of the presentation slides and information about how to access a wide range of free online videos, tools, and print resources. These will better prepare attendees to support students who have experienced a crisis—as well as all grieving students.

Certificates of attendance will be provided to attendees and a webinar recording will be available to registrants for 4 weeks.
