Vincent Giordano, MS

Vinny was a partner, now retired, at Denizen Consulting where he advised school districts and individual schools on implementation of student support services and policy development. He also served as the Executive Director of the New York City Department of Education’s Division of Student Support Services from 1987 to 2003. He had responsibility for K-12 citywide student services including counseling/mental health services, crisis intervention, student discipline, health education and attendance, ensuring that 1100 schools serving over 1.1 million students had access to appropriate professional development and technical assistance to address student needs. He coordinated the Department’s counseling services for students affected by the events of September 11th and represented the Department with all government agencies and community- based organizations ensuring regulatory and contractual compliance. Additionally, he provided consultation for the New York Academy of Medicine on school health programs and Brienza’s Academic Advantage. He has also served on numerous professional advisory boards. As a member of the NCSCB since 2003 he advises on issues regarding crisis prevention and response for school administrators. He is also an advisor for the nationwide implementation of the Center’s Grief Sensitive Schools Initiative.
